Mt. SAC, in its 67th year, is billed as the world’s largest cross country invitational.  The High School Division, run over two days, featured 111 races.  The highlight of Saturday was a new course record of 14:23 by junior Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda.  Saturday attendees also saw Davis’ Fiona O’Keeffe run away with the Girl’s Individual Sweepstakes race in the 4th fastest Girl’s time of 16:29.  Rich Gonzales at PrepCalTrack provides a great overview of Mt. SAC performances HERE.

The Mt. SAC course will be the site of CIF-SS competitions on the road to State.  Many of the top ranked teams in both Southern Section and State competed at the Invitational, so results provide some insight as to what can be expected come November.  Rio Hondo teams were well represented in the D3 and D4 races on Friday.  La Canada’s Girls ran in the D4 Sweepstakes race and came in 6th with 184 points against the top teams in Southern Section and the State.  Katie Scoville came in 6th and Colleen Mispagel 12th to lead the Lady Spartans.  The San Marino Girls ran to a 3rd place team finish in their D4 Varsity race, led by Olivia Harrigian’s 5th place finish.  South Pasadena’s Girls team took 4th place in their D3 Varsity race behind Emily Yee’s 7th place finish.  Rebecca De La O of Monrovia took 6th place in her D3 Freshman race.  Maia Thomas of South Pasadena took 9th place in her D3 JV race and San Marino’s Sharmayne Siu took 7th in her D4 JV race.

On the Boy’s side, San Marino took 5th place in its D4 Varsity race, with John Judge taking 5th individually.  La Canada had several Varsity runners in age-level races, but Ethan Angold had a strong individual 7th place finish in the D4 Varsity race.  South Pasadena’s Varsity squad took 4th in their D3 Varsity race.  La Canada won the team title in the D4 Freshman race with three runners in the top 10, led by Ethan Crane’s 2nd place, followed by Christos Menemenlis in 5th and Ryan Van Slooten in 8th (Ethan was battling for the win and appeared to be interfered with by one of the race officials at the finish).  La Canada’s Seve Rodriguez took 6th in his D4 Sophomore race.  Josh Frederich took 6th in his D4 JV race.
