Rio Hondo League had athletes qualify to compete in 16 events at the May 21 CIF-SS Finals meet, with three achieving CIF-SS D3 champion status: Monrovia’s Micah Fulton placed 1st in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, La Canada’s Katie Scoville took 1st in the 3200M, and South Pasadena’s Esteban Suarez soared to 1st in the Pole Vault. Blair’s Kalen Marshall and Monrovia’s Jordyn Tucker also had top 3 finishes at the meet. Monrovia’s girls placed 3rd in the D3 team competition. The three individual CIF-SS Champions moved on to the May 27 CIF-SS Masters meet, with both Scoville and Suarez qualifying for the CIF State Meet. Suarez had a huge PR at State and took second place overall in the pole vault competition. Additional CIF coverage is HERE.
There were also a number of League Meet records set at the Rio Hondo Finals and Prelims, despite the rain and thunder at the Finals meet. A number of the records were in the Frosh-Soph level, and it will be exciting to see these athletes perform at the Varsity level in coming years. Additional Rio Hondo Prelims and Finals coverage is HERE.
Below we present the top performances by event for the 2016 season. There is also a link to reports of the top 10 performances by event for both male and female athletes. We have used Athletic.net to compile the results. We are sorry if there are any omissions or errors, but Athletic.net relies on accurate upload of meet results from coaches and meet directors (for example, Justes Nance shows as the top performance in the 100M and 200M, but he is actually from a Blair High in another state).
