Rain and thunder greeted athletes and spectators at the May 6 Rio Hondo League Finals meet. Although conditions were challenging, especially in the field events, there were a number of meet records set and numerous Rio Hondo season bests were achieved. The Monrovia Frosh-Soph 4 x 100M relay team of Lang, Allen, Karlisson and Sanford started the meet off with a new Frosh-Soph Girls meet record of 50.99. Soon after, La Canada’s Katie Scoville clocked 5:06.47 to set a new Varsity Girls record in the 1600M. The next meet record to fall was in the Frosh-Soph Girls 400M, where South Pasaden’s Ashley Hugasian ran 62.80. Monrovia’s Micah Fulton set a new Varsity Girls record in the Triple Jump with a leap of 37’ 1.5”. Late in the meet, South Pasadena’s Frosh-Soph Girls 4 x 400M relay team of Guevara, Uriate, Holmes and Hugasian took over 2 seconds off the previous record, running 4:19.36 for the win, and Monrovia’s relay team also beat the former record by running 4:21.33 to place second. In competition on May 3 at the Prelims meet, several Frosh-Soph Girls field event records were set, with freshman Gina Catania of South Pasadena establishing new records in both the Long Jump (15’ 11”) and Triple Jump (33’ 4”). In the Triple Jump, Min Pan of Temple City also exceeded the former record with her second place finish (32’ 1”). In the Shot Put,the top two surpassed the former meet record, with Destiny Segura of Monrovia improving on her 2015 meet record by over one foot, to 28’ 7.5”.
